War of 1812 re-enacted

Yes, I know I've been remiss in keeping this blog active. Yes, I know it's been over six months since my last blog post. But I am here today with some new images to share.

2012 is the Bicentennial year of the War of 1812. And up here in Canada, there have been many events celebrating the occasion. It seems both sides won the war. At least that is what the history books of the respective countries state. A recent columnist in a local newspaper said the only loser in the War of 1812 were the North American Indian.

Politics and editorial comments aside, I had the opportunity to watch and photograph a number of tail ships and several hundred re-enactors re-enact the invasion of Bath, Ontario by the Americans and their later retreat.

Thought it would be appropriate (and fun) to play with a few of the photos by converting to B&W, adding a sepia tone and textures in an attempt to give them a vintage look. Hoping you will find my attempts pleasing.

One photo with seven variations

I took the following photo back in Decemeber 2010 during a visit to Old Montreal.

Because it was a bit overcast that day, when I processed the above image, I boosted the saturation a bit to give the image a bit of 'oomph'. Not being one to leave well-enough alone, I started playing with the image.

First came the Line Art versions.

Playing with the line art version led to finding out what it would look like as a painting - a watercolour actually.

More recently, I played with the original by converting it to a B&W image. And then to a B&W with sepia toning.

But my favourite play to-date is this textured version.
